General Information

Welcome

Here you will find information about the curriculum, parent workshops and exciting learning your children are experiencing. You will also find a copy of our year 1 curriculum and the learning journey the children are taking, which is updated regularly.

PE

The children will have PE every Monday afternoon and Friday afternoons. Please ensure your child has the correct kit for these sessions. They will need a white t-shirt, a pair of navy blue shorts and some black school pumps.

Reading

Reading is such an important factor in enhancing your child's learning and development. Therefore, we hope that you can join us in helping your child to develop a love for reading! We would appreciate it if you could read with your child at least three times a week. Your child can read their own books as well as their school reading books or even the online learning platform Oxford Owls. We love hearing all about their favourite stories and sharing them with the class! In Year 1 we participate in the National Phonics screening assessment. we encourage the children to utilise a range of free phonic platforms such as phonics play and purple mash. In these games the children read a range of phase 3 and 5 sounds including nonsense words. It is vital the children read the sounds accurately.

Please write in their diary how they have got on with the book. Books will be changed once per week.

Homework

Homework will be set weekly - 1 x Maths or Writing and 1 x Phonics. This will benefit your child's learning inside the classroom such as sentence formation, letter formation and phonics . We will also send a termly topic homework sheet - please send photos / videos etc on Class Dojo.

We will often share learning via our class story page on Dojo and even X (twitter) We can't wait to share our learning with you as you watch us flourish and grow throughout our time in Year 1.
