General Information

Class Christian Value

Our Christian Value this half term is Forgiveness

Here at St. John's we recognise that each child is an individual and will progress through developmental statements at their own pace. We support this with a flexible and responsive approach to planning that reflects the needs and interests of all children. The impact of which sees our children develop the firm foundations they need to progress through and access the National Curriculum.

The EYFS curriculum has seven areas of learning split into two main categories-Prime and Specific

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Specific Areas

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

We promote the development of all Characteristics of Effective Learning, this is the way children learn.

Playing and Exploring - this involves finding out and exploring, playing with what they know and being willing to have a go.

Active Learning - this involves being involved and concentrating, keeping trying and enjoying achieving what they set out to do

Creating and Thinking Critically – this involves having their own ideas, making links in their learning and working with ideas.

In Art and Design we have been exploring the artwork of Anthony Gormley and were inspired to create our own sculptures.

Topic

Our topic for Summer Term is Our Wonderful World

We will be investigating mini beasts and creepy crawlies, as well as exploring materials and scientific investigations.

We will be thinking about all the amazing places we have visited and where we would like to travel to next.

In RE this half term we have enjoyed exploring the Easter story. We acted out the events of Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.  We thought about Jesus eating the last supper and washed our feet, as Jesus washed his disciples’ feet. We listened to the story of Good Friday and created our own crosses. We enjoyed eating hot cross buns and looked carefully at the cross reminding us of Jesus.
